Jump Institute’s mission is to reinvigorate students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (added this in, thoughts?) while empowering them to create and share learning experiences.

Jump’s mission is to create an environment where students can be their best. To accomplish this goal, JumpIn is safe place for students to document their learning, and that parents and teachers are in complete control over how that information is shared. To guide our expansion of JumpIn, and as our privacy commitment to you, we’ve developed the following Privacy Principles.

We don’t own the content you provide – students and their schools do.
We will never sell any user data.
We use security industry best practices and routinely monitor our systems to protect you.
We will notify you if any of our practices change.
We are COPPA and FERPA compliant.

This Privacy Policy governs the use of data collected by our websites at Jumpin.io, and the Jump Application (collectively “the JumpIn Service”, “the Service” “Jump” or “JumpIn”). This includes any personally identifiable information that we collect when you create an account (“Account Information”) and content added to posts (“Posts”). Any data collected by JumpIn that can be linked back to an individual student is considered “Student Data”. By using JumpIn, you agree to this Privacy Policy. Changes to Our Privacy Policy

JumpIn may from time to time make changes to this Privacy Policy to account for changes to our practices or applicable law. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy that we believe will materially affect your rights, we will notify you by email or directly to your JumpIn profile about these changes and also post a notice to our service. If you continue to use our service after you receive notice of changes to this Privacy Policy, you will accept these changes.

JumpIN is COPPA and FERPA Compliant

JumpIn only collects personal information through the Services from a child under 13 where their school, district, and/or teacher has agreed (as described in more detail in the Terms of Service) to obtain parental consent to use the Services and disclose personal information to us for the use and benefit of the learning environment. If you are aware JumpIn is collecting information from a student under age 13 without parent consent, please contact us immediately at help@JumpIn.io and we will delete the data.

Information Collection

Who Does JumpIN Collect Information from?

Teachers, parents, family members, students, and schools may create accounts on JumpIn. We also collect limited log-data from all visitors to our website.

What Information Does JumpIn Collect?

Account Information: When teachers, parents, family members, or school administrators create an account on JumpIn we collect your name, email address, password, and profile picture. JumpIn may also collect your phone number if you enter it in your Account Settings.

Students cannot create an account by themselves, but must be invited to a JumpIn class by a teacher or school administrator. Where students have permission to use JumpIn, JumpIn collects personally identifiable information about them including their names, email addresses, and photographs. This information may be entered by a teacher or the student or populated from the student’s account with a third party sign-in service, such as their Google account.

Journal Content: JumpIn also collects content that is added to a class or student journal. This content may be photos, drawings, files, notes, hyperlinks, and other ways of documenting student learning. We regularly add types of information that can be uploaded to a Journal, and these are all covered by this Policy. We also collect comments on posts in your class journal which may be text, or if you allow JumpIn to access the microphone on your device, voice recordings. Journal Content that is uploaded by a student or teacher may be considered a student education record under the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”).

Communications: JumpIn collects any information you send to us directly, such as email communications.

Information from your Google Account or other Third Party Sign-in Service: JumpIn allows teachers, parents, and students (after being invited by a teacher) to sign up for and log into our service using a Google Account. When you sign up for an account using a Google Account, Google sends us the full name, profile picture, and URL of your Google+ profile associated with your Google Account. JumpIn may also receive additional information, such as publicly available information on your Google+ profile.

Log Data: When you use JumpIn, we receive log data such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, device information, and your mobile carrier. In addition, we may receive or collect additional information such as the referring web page, referring search terms, and pages visited. If you are using JumpIn as a teacher, parent, or administrator, JumpIn may use your IP address to determine your approximate location for the purposes of sending you customized marketing and other information about our products.

How Do You Use Cookies and Third Party Analytics Services?

JumpIn uses cookies and third party analytics services to understand how users use our Services, to improve them and to promote JumpIn to teachers and schools. Cookies are small text files that we transfer to your computer. The cookies JumpIn uses do not share any Account Information or information from your Class Journal with any third party. These cookies might be “session” cookies, which disappear after you log out of JumpIn and close your browser. We may also use “persistent” cookies, which can stay on your computer for a longer period of time or indefinitely.

International Visitors

How Does JumpIn Handle Data from International Visitors?

The JumpIn Service is hosted and operated in the United States and is subject to United States law. Any personal information that you provide to JumpIn will be hosted on United States servers. By using this Service, you consent to the transfer to and processing of your personal information in the United States.

JumpIn is subject to the investigatory and enforcement powers of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Under their jurisdiction, JumpIn complies with the EU - U.S. Privacy Shield Framework as set forth by the US Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use and retention of personal information from European Union member countries. JumpIn has certified that it adheres to the Privacy Shield Privacy Principles of notice, choice, and accountability for onward transfer, security, data integrity, access, and enforcement and liability. If there is any conflict between the policies in this privacy policy and the Privacy Shield Principles, the Privacy Shield principles shall govern. User Interaction & Your Account

Can Users Interact?

JumpIn is designed for safe and positive interactions. Teachers and students in the 8th grade or higher may also choose to publish specific content to a public collage web page managed by JumpIn (“Community Feed”), or to third party services including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Schools control whether or not students can share JumpIn content with other services.

JumpIn has no responsibility for any information an authorized account holder shares on a third party website. The third party website’s policies will apply to content shared there.

How Does JumpIN Handle Abandoned Accounts?

JumpIn reserves the right to terminate accounts that have not been accessed by the teacher or school associated with the account for a period of more than six months or upon a school terminating its contract. Prior to terminating an abandoned account, JumpIn will notify the teacher or school associated with the account by email and provide an opportunity to download an archive copy of the class journal.

How to View, Correct, Edit or Update Your Personal Information?

You have the right to access, correct, or delete any of your personal information collected by JumpIn. If you are a student or teacher, you can update the information associated with your JumpIn account by logging into your account and viewing the Account Settings tab on your profile. If you are a student and have any trouble, please work directly with your teacher or school, or you can contact us at help@JumpIn.io.

How to Delete Your JumpIN Account

You have the right to access, correct, or delete any of your personal information collected by JumpIn. If you are a student or teacher, you can update the information associated with your JumpIn account by logging into your account and viewing the Account Settings tab on your profile. If you are a student and have any trouble, please work directly with your teacher or school, or you can contact us at help@JumpIn.io. If you request that your account or any content submitted to JumpIn be deleted, JumpIn may still retain information for up to 90 days to provide customer support and prevent accidental deletion.

For teachers or school administrators, please be aware that FERPA requires us to retain student education records once a valid request to inspect those records has been made.
